What is encaustic?

Encaustic paint is made from beeswax, damar resin, and pigment. Unlike traditional paint, it is heated until molten, applied to wood panel, and fused with flame. Each layer becomes part of the one beneath it, creating a luminous surface with unusual depth, texture, and movement.

Robin builds each painting through a physical process of brushing, heating, scraping, carving, and refining. The wax catches light in a way that feels both ancient and alive — soft, dimensional, and impossible to fully capture in a photograph.

The result is original artwork that feels tactile, atmospheric, and deeply connected to place.
